Community Sports

Posted by CityBlogOR on May 28th, 2007

Living in Brookings, Oregon is a lot like living in any home town, with local sports being a big part of the lifestyle. Families look for T-Ball, Little League, soccer and of course, junior high and high school sports. What is sport organizations are in Brookings, Oregon? Are their sport opportunities for adults? Is there a parks and recreation department in Brookings?

Brookings has your sports opportunities covered! As far as youth sports go, we have a great youth soccer league in the fall (brand new soccer fields being developed!), a winter basketball league, and Little League baseball and softball in the spring. Both the middle and high school have very strong athletic programs. At the high school level you will find almost every sport and a very strong Booster Club supporting them all the way. There is an adult basketball opportunity and a great baseball tourney The Slippery Banana held every February. We have a bowling alley with lots of team opportunities. On your own there are endless things to do…hike on our beautiful, scenic trails along the beach or rivers, kayak on the Chetco River, swim in the summer in some of the most beautiful swimming holes you will ever see, surf, skimboard in the Pacific Ocean. We have two gyms. Take your pick of activities while breathing in our clear, clean coastal air. I’d be glad to answer any other questions you have about our area!
